 Wageningen UR pays attention to the International Year of Rice. Within the scope of the Diës natalis of Wageningen University and the MSc course Global Food Security, distinguished professor Louise Fresco will lecture on the challenges in rice research for food security. This corresponds to the call of the United Nations General Assembly that declared the year 2004 the International Year of Rice.
Louise Fresco, Assistant Director General of the FAO and former professor at Wageningen University, reacted positively on the request, to lecture again in the course on Global Food Security. In the past course, she gave a presentation on ‘Food Safety and Food Security – International Concerns’ (2003) and earlier on ‘GMO’s and Food Security: where are we and where are we going?’ (2001). Also for these inspired and discussion-provoking lectures, the audience was expanded beyond the course participants to a full ‘Capitulation room’ in ‘De Wereld’. Interested students and staff are kindly invited to enjoy the lecture on Monday, March 8th, 13.00 – 14.30h.
