On December 3rd 2004, Wageningen University and Researchcenter will presentthe report Turkey in the European Union: Consequences for Agriculture,Food, Rural Areas and Structural Policy. This report is the result reasearch carriedout by an international group of economists and agricultural economists leadby professor dr. Arie Oskam from Wageningen University . The report willbe presented at a press conference in Nieuwspoort Press Centre in Den Haag.
The report offers an overview of Turkish agriculture, food production andsocial and economic aspects of rural areas.
The survey assumes Turkey’s accession to the European Union in 2015.Consequences for both Turkey and the EU are explored mainly as a desk researchon a basis of available literature and information. The report is complimentaryto studies done by the European Commission, emphasising long-term processesand institutional developments. The research on behalf of Dutch Ministryof Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality has been performed by WageningenUR
Dr. Alison. Burrell, Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics and RuralPolicy and prof. dr. ir. Arie. Oskam, Professor of Agricultural Economicsand Rural Policy will summarize the results and are available to take questionsfrom journalists at the press conference
Seminar
In the afternoon the report will be discussed at a seminar. This seminarwill take place at the same venue, Nieuwspoort press centre, Wandelganger2. It will be held from 2.00 pm until 4.30 pm. Arie Oskam and Alison Burrellwill present the study. Their presentation will be followed by a reactionfrom several assessors and an open discussion. The seminar will be closedwith concluding remarks.
