Wageningen UR has many contacts in Africa dating back to the past. There is close collaboration with universities, agricultural research organisations, NGOs and/or farmers organisations. Many of the goals are aimed at realising the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Wageningen UR delivers scientific and practical contributions by increasing food security, decreasing poverty, and increasing the quality of living circumstances in Africa. The themes encompass the quality and use of natural resources, production systems, nature conservation and management, climate change, food quality, food and health, agro supply chains, entrepreneurship and market development of rural Africa.
The regional priorities are located namely in Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania), Western Africa (Ghana, Burkina Faso and Mali) and Southern Africa (South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi and Zimbabwe).
