The DGIS-Wageningen UR partnership is a collaboration between the Dutch government (the Directorate-General International Cooperation of the Ministry of Development Cooperation) and Wageningen UR in the field of globalisation and sustainable rural development.
Set in a context of contradicting local, national and global interests, the programme strives to deliver research results in order to support the design and implementation of potential policies options for the sustainable use of natural resources, the chains of agro industry and agro biodiversity.
These potential policies must lead to an increased quality of life, decrease in poverty and a positive economic development (in rural areas) in the south. Farmers and other small-scale entrepreneurs form the primary target audience. The programme places strong emphasis, but not exclusively, on the Sub-Saharan African countries.
