The prevalence of obesity has dramatically increased in the last few years. Besides the development of metabolic abnormalities including high plasma glucose and triglyceride levels, obesity is characterized by a chronic low grade inflammation. The development of obesity-induced chronic inflammation, the effects on insulin sensitivity and the role of nuclear receptors in this process will be the main focus of this symposium. The impact of inflammation on liver-, adipose tissue-, muscle- and vascular wall-functioning is presented during the symposium.
