Due to the rising sea level and the subsidence in the Netherlands, an increasing amount of agricultural land is becoming saline. Up to now, technology allowed us to reverse this trend, however, it is not feasible to sustain this strategy in the long term. Current techniques will reach their physical boundaries and the costs will increase. Instead of combating salinity, a better option would be to exploit saline areas. Currently, the conversion of saline areas into nature is the most common practice. Saline agriculture offers another attractive possibility.

RUW organizes an evening to inform you about this new type of agriculture. You can try out dishes with products from saline agriculture at dinner house Zeezicht, while Willem Brandenburg from Wageningen UR, an expert on saline agriculture, will tell you all about this new phenomenon. He will share his experience about a brand new saline agriculture project in the Netherlands and will challenge you with his interesting concepts.
