Prof. Michael J. VandeHaar, Professor of Animal Science, Michigan State University, USA: ‘Defining efficiency in animal agriculture: towards a global view’

Co-referee: Prof. Wouter Hendriks, Animal Nutrition Group, Wageningen University

While the claims of the new film ‘Meat the Truth’ may be exaggerated, we can agree that animal agriculture is not as efficient as we would like it to be. The ways we define efficiency or sustainability impact our vision for the future. The goal of this talk is to encourage development of new metrics for efficiency that ensure we are working toward long-term sustainability.

Zodiac academic lectures are an initiative of the Department of Animal Sciences, Wageningen University. On every first (due to holiday this time on the second) Tuesday of the month, an invited speaker will present a topic related to animal sciences. Speaker and topic will, and are meant to, provoke discussion among the audience of staff, postdocs, PhD and MSc students, and guests. Drinks after the presentation and discussion.
