Safe, good quality food is essential to food security, public health and economic development. An effective national food safety system requires a legal framework which enables science based risk analysis and policy priority setting, an enforcement strategy emphasizing on prevention, and encourages participation of stakeholders from farm to table.

This training programme provides knowledge, concepts and tools for government and private sector professionals. Governing food safety in international trade provides insight in how to deal with technical trade barriers, how to participate in international standard setting, and how to translate this into national policy priorities. Food safety and quality management in agrifood chains provides insight in how risk assessment, management and communication work in practice for government authorities and food business responsible for inspection, auditing, and certification of food safety control.

The four-week training programme consists of two individual courses:
