Multi-stakeholder processes for institutional strengthening
Local governance has become a multi-stakeholder process in which national government and line ministries, local government, civil society and the private sector work together to drive development. Rural populations are increasingly seen as citizens who have the right to participate in local governance processes but issues of inclusion-exclusion remain. All stakeholders involved have to redefine their roles, norms and practices.
Aim of this course is to enhance participant’s understanding of good local governance for rural development. The course will position local governance in the context of policy dialogue, Sector Wide Approaches, Macro-Micro linkages and Development Assistance. It will relate concepts on governance, institutions, social learning and participation to practice. Course participants, facilitators and resource persons will analyze complex existing situations and participants will develop practical action plans on local governance for their own use.
