Bamboo is one of the world’s most versatile bio-based resources for supply of human needs for food, fuel and materials. As non-wood forest product and wood substitute it plays an important economic and cultural role in many countries of all continents. The large growth potential of this commodity and its novel uses in many different industries has resulted in the initiative to bring together science and industry expertise to address the future development.
This international expert meeting on bamboo fibre processing and innovation in cellulose product development is aiming at the enhanced demand and market value for bamboo as industrial feedstock for cellulose fibre production and improvement of the environmental performance of the existing industries in bamboo producing countries.
The meeting is to identify the research and development needs in the field and aiming at the establishment of a lasting expert network dedicated to the transfer of know how / and the initiation of new cooperation between institutes and industries in the various bamboo growing countries. Increased demands for bamboo as wood substitute feedstock for industrial processing will increase the livelihood of the poor farming communities as well as reduce the pressure on forestry resources.
In the 1st International Conference on Bamboo Fibre Application, experts from around the world will share the details of innovation in the area of lignocellulose fibre production from bamboo as one of the major non-wood biomass resources for application in paper and pulp production as well as textile. The Conference aims at bringing together outstanding academic scientific expertise with the innovative industries for taking the challenges to implement new inventions and improve large-scale manufacturing.
