The recent food, energy, financial, crisis and now the global economic down turn have all exposed the extent of interconnectedness between national economies, financial institutes and livelihoods of people cross the globe. Glocalization refers to the simultaneous interaction whereby the global affects local circumstances, and local events have global impacts. This process of Glocalization has been deeply visible in international food trade. Agriculture both affects and is affected by global warming with the latter having a universal public good trait. Local concerns about environmental sustainability influence food consumption patterns, which in turn affect global market access, level of international food trade, and related income. Local food production and processing have global impact on climate change and on currently local food output level is affected by climate change. Hence, having an effective and efficient food supply chain in terms of food safety, food security, and sustainable ecosystem is paramount to the ‘smooth’ functioning of international food trade as well as addressing vulnerabilities and exploit opportunities adequately. This seminar aims to address some of the issues related to this topics.
