Contact with people from different cultural backgrounds has become part of our daily life. Some seem to enjoy it, while others find it stressful. There is growing evidence that personality matters in dealing with people who are different from us. Jan Pieter van Oudenhoven discusses five key personality dimensions of effective intercultural communication. In addition he will show a video program of intercultural training.

Prof. dr. Van Oudenhoven teaches Cross-Cultural Psychology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. His topics of interests are international attitudes, international cooperation, national cultures, success factors of expatriation, immigration issues, international students, religion and integration, and intercultural effectiveness and intercultural training.

This lecture is part of an Akademia Honora series on Cross-Cultural Psychology

Akademia Honora is a unique programme within Studium Generale. Throughout the year we reflect on science/ knowledge, society/ practice and the personal sphere in separate Akademia Honora series by exploring in depth the underlying concepts in several sessions. This method provides tools for reflection on practical realities.
