Unit: Environmental Policy Group

On the 1st of October, ENP welcomed Aarti Gupta as our new Assistant Professor in International Environmental Politics. Aarti Gupta's research focuses on global environmental and risk governance, the role of science in global environmental policy-making, and the interaction of environmental regimes with trade rules.
Her recent focus has been on global-national linkages in governance of agricultural biotechnology, from a political science and international relations perspective. Prior to coming to Wageningen, Aarti was a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Columbia University's Center for Science, Policy and Outcomes, and a Global Environmental Assessment Fellow at Harvard University's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Aarti received her Ph.D. from Yale University's Department of Forestry and Environmental Studies in 2001. Her doctoral research analyzed the role of norms and science in negotiation of global rules to govern trade in genetically modified organisms.
Additional recent work experience includes coordinating Transparency International’s Forest Integrity Network (FIN), an initiative to combat corruption and ensure good governance in the forest sector, and work with Novib (Oxfam Netherlands) on integrating global environmental concerns such as biodiversity loss, resource-based conflicts and climate change into the organization’s developmental agenda.
Aarti is happy to join the ENP group, where she will be responsible for teaching International Environmental Politics and Environmental Policy: Analysis, Evaluation and Design.
