ENERGY LANDSCAPES
New Research Project launched by the Chairgroup Landscape Architecture
Project title:
Synergies between Regional Planning and Exergie (SREX)
Focus LAR:
Design of sustainable Energy Landscapes
The Chairgroup Landscape Architecture, WageningenUniversity and Research, proudly announces the launch of its latest research project Energy Landscapes
Background:
The Dutch Agency for innovation, energy and environment is looking for means to increase energy savings on a regional scale. SenterNovem recognizes SREX as one central contribution providing the Netherlands with the opportunity to meet the goals set by the newest European directive on energy efficiency at the same time improving living conditions and energy independence. The project team consists of researchers from three Dutch universities (RuG, TUDelft and WUR).
Research question:
What are the general design principles for a regional landscape approach?
What are the functional, spatial and aesthetic consequences of new, exergie based design strategies and layout principles in the landscape?
What are the potential benefits of increased energy self-sufficiency?
What are the chances to gain extra aesthetic value for the quality and identity of recreational, living and working areas?
Methods:
Design principles will be developed on a regional scale and tested in different provinces of the Netherlands, namely the northern Netherlands (NNL) and the province of Limburg. A number of scenarios will be simulated with the help of diagrams, maps and 3D animation. Our research will be incorporated into Masters Ateliers and students thesis providing challenging objectives and benefiting from the professional setting of the Landscape Architecture program at the University of Wageningen.
