Are you familiar with that feeling? To feel that people are suffering from food shortage on the one hand, but are equipped with a tremendous potential of entrepreneurship at the other? How can we prosper this potential?

Stichting Wereldvoedselvraagstuk organises three expert meetings for the celebration of World Food Day 2006. The expert meetings will focus on food security and entrepreneurship. We will discuss how entrepreneurship at both local and global level can contribute to food security. What instruments do we need, which stakeholders should be involved and what are their respective roles? These are some of the topics that will be debated during the expert meetings, with stakeholders from business, government, civil society and science. Experts in the field of food security, agriculture and development cooperation are invited to participate in these meetings.

In total three expert meetings will be organised: two in the month before World Food Day and one on World Food Day (16 October). In the latter, expert views will be judged by Dutch politicians on their policy feasibility. The overall aim of the expert meetings is exchanging knowledge and forming of opinion about different strategies to increase food security.

Expert meeting 1: Local action for food security, 12 September 2006
This expert meeting will focus on local entrepreneurship and how this can contribute to food security. The Schoolfeeding Initiative Ghana Netherlands will be presented as case study.

Expert meeting 2: Global action for food security, 27 September 2006
What serves food security best: agricultural development or broad economic investments?

Expert meeting 3 on World Food Day 2006: Who makes a stand for food security?, 16 October 2006
Experts will present the different strategies to improve food security in the world that were developed during the first two expert meetings. Six weeks before the general elections for the Dutch parliament, a political forum with representatives from the different political parties, will debate with the audience the role that different stakeholders can and should have in the fight against hunger.

The meetings are free of charge and can be visited separately. In case of overwhelming interest, a selection will be made.
