Junior Research Fellow
A Ph.D. student position for 4 yrs is available from June 2006. The successful applicant will work on genetics of Nile tilapia in a joint collaborative project between Reproductive Genomics Group, Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (Singapore) and Animal Breeding and Genetics Group, Wageningen University (The Netherlands). The study involves genomic research on sex-linked DNA markers as well as quantitative genetic analysis of Nile tilapia lines.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate should be a creative and devoted researcher with a completed MSc degree in the field of molecular biology, quantitative genetics or statistics. The candidate should also have strong basics in molecular biology and statistics, a good command of English (TOEFL 650 or IELTS 7.0), as well as strong problem-solving ability. She/he should be a team player with excellent communication skills. While experience with fish is an advantage, the love of fish is essential.
The PhD student will be based in Singapore and Netherlands throughout the PhD candidature period, by spending approximately 2 years each in Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory & Wageningen University. He/She will participate in the training program of the graduate school, Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences (WIAS) and the PhD degree will be conferred by Wageningen University.
