The Thesis 'Black Magic in the Aquatic Environment' (2004), by Chiel Jonker wins KNCV-MC Thesis Award. Some quotes: "The results show that black carbon may strongly reduce the risk posed by organic contaminants in sediments and soils". "Because black carbon is ubiquitous in aquatic sediments, this research has contributed to a completely different view on sorption of organic chemicals."
