Unit: Wageningen UR

Where are we now? Can Wageningen do better?

Tuesday April 4, 8pm, De Leeuwenborch

Of the eight MDGs three are of specific relevance for Wageningen UR: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; Ensure environmental sustainability; Develop a global partnership for development.

At this Studium Generale discussion evening, Maarten Brouwer (DGIS/Netherlands’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs) will explain how the process of the MDGs is being monitored world-wide and in what way its quality and effectiveness can be improved. Leontine Visser (WU/Chair Rural Development Studies) shares with us some thoughts on the goals and achievements so far, from the social sciences perspective, and Huub Loffler (Wag UR/ Secretary Plant Sciences Group, and co-author of the InterAcademy Report ‘Realizing the promise and potential of African agriculture) will look at the MDGs from the point of view of science and technology. After the break there is ample time for discussion.
