Growing coral under glass

A quarter of all fish species live on coral reefs. These reefs are threatened by climate change, clogging and overfishing. Moreover stone corals are more and more populair with aquarium devotees which increases the pressure on the natural reefs.

Together with European zoos Wageningen university examines which factors stipulate the increase of corals. With that nurserymen can begin to grow coral. That will lighten the pressure on coral in nature and eventually can be used for restoration of natural reef ecosystems. In this way Wageningen university works for the quality of life to nature under water.
