This 3.5-days course of 1.5 ECTS consists of 2 modules: 1) Research Integrity & 2) Ethics and Animal Science.

Programme

MODULE 1: Research Integrity, in Room P5015 in Orion on 29 June (whole day) & 30 June (half day)

Day 1 Thursday 29 June
9.00 – 10.15 Introduction 1: Ethical issues in research; basic values in science; integrity; breaches of integrity.
10.15 – 12.00 Reading assignment in small groups: Science in Transition; Code of Conduct WUR; a few small case-studies.
13.00 – 14.00 Plenary: questions; presentation and discussion of reading assignment.
14.15 – 15.15 Interactive video assignment: Integrity Factor / The Lab (in small groups. Short plenary discussion).
15.30 – 17.00 Presentation / interview with confidential advisor (Adri van den Brink or Marcel Zwietering).

Day 2 Friday 30 June
9.00 – 10.00 Introduction 2: Integrity questions in a project (idea; proposal; financing; method; experiments; publishing; etc.).
10.00 – 11.00 Presentation of / interview with senior researcher about integrity problems.
11.00 - 12.30 Systematic analysis of individual projects: Where are integrity tensions? Methodologically weak points? Are there possibilities to manipulate data? What does one need to be able to cope with tensions? After an individual preparation discussion in small groups and a short plenary at the end.

Fee

1) Reduced fee: PhD candidates of Wageningen University with an approved Training and Supervision Plan (TSP) and post-docs of Wageningen University that are registered at one of the graduate schools of Wageningen (EPS, PE&RC, VLAG, WASS, WIAS, WIMEK)€ 225,-2) University fee: All other PhD candidates / post-docs as well as staff of Wageningen University€ 450,-3) External fee: All other participants€ 900,-

Fee includes study and training material, coffee/tea and lunches.

Cancellation condition

Until four weeks before the start of the course, you can cancel free of charge. After this date you will be charged with the “University Fee”. Unless:

You can find someone to replace you in the course and supply the course coordinator with the name and contact information of your replacement. In this case you will only be charged a €50,- cancellation fee.

  • You (PhD’s and post-docs of Wageningen University) have a valid reason to cancel (circumstances beyond your control). In this case you will be charged the reduced fee and your supervisor/PI must send a mail indicating the reason for cancellation.
