Would you like to improve your basic speaking and listening skills in English? This course focuses on practical skills but also spends ample time on English culture.
Classes take place in the Forum building on the Wageningen University & Research campus.
Basic English is a course for Wageningen University & Research Language Policy and is for all employees who want to quickly acquire a solid foundation in English. The course is also open to external participants.
Basic English: A1/A2 CEFR
The course covers the following topics:
- Providing personal information
- Explaining yourself to others: asking and answering questions
- Establishing a grammar and vocabulary foundation
- Practising pronounciation
- Reading and writing basics
This course meets once a week for 12 weeks. Each class is 1.5 hours. Participants should expect to spend 2 to 3 hours on homework each week.

If you are taking the course as part of the Wageningen University & Research Language Policy, your skills will be tested in the final class. If you pass the test, you will receive a Wageningen in’to Languages certificate. If you do not pass, you will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance, providing you have attended enough classes.

Prior to registration: placement test
New course participants are obliged to take the free Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) to ensure that they are placed in the right course. Basic English requires an OOPT score of at least 40. Please note: registration cannot be confirmed without a placement test result. Arrange an OOPT appointment through our online calendar.
