Cambridge Certificates

Cambridge Certificates are official, globally recognised certificates in English.

Wageningen in’to Languages organises courses that prepare students for:

  • Cambridge Preliminary
  • Cambridge First
  • Cambridge Advanced
  • Cambridge Proficiency

Classes take place on the Wageningen University & Research Campus, in the Forum building.

Target group

These courses are suitable for anyone who needs to speak English at a professional level, such as students and teachers involved in English-language degree programmes.

  2. Cambridge First: B2
  3. Cambridge Advanced: C1
  4. Cambridge Proficiency: C2

Contents

The courses focus on functional language use. All skills are developed:

  1. reading
  2. writing
  3. listening
  4. speaking

The reading texts are taken from sources such as newspapers, information leaflets, letters and magazines. Writing assignments might involve formal and informal letters, brochures, articles, memos and reports. The listening and speaking tasks are equally varied and are inspired by current events and situations.

Planning

The courses consist of 16 classes of 2 hours. In addition to the classes, you will be expected to spend 2 to 4 hours on self-study each week.

These courses are offered in February and September each year.

Completion and certificate

After completing the course, the participants can have their skills tested by means of the official Cambridge English exam. They have to register for this exam themselves. It costs EUR 230 per candidate and the internationally recognised certificate awarded upon passing it is valid for life. If you are taking the course in the context of WUR Language Policy, you are obliged to take the exam. This will be paid for by your employer.

The British Council administers the exam at different locations in the Netherlands. The exam consists of five parts. You are thoroughly prepared for the exam during the course.

To make sure everyone is placed in the right course, new course participants are obliged to take the free Oxford Online Placement Test. Please note: registration cannot be confirmed without a placement test result. Arrange an appointment through our online calendar.

You will not be obliged to take the Oxford Online Placement Test if you:

  • want to register for Cambridge First, and you passed the official Cambridge Preliminary examination with at least grade C;

  • want to register for Cambridge Advanced, and you passed the official Cambridge First examination with at least grade C;

  • want to register for Cambridge Proficiency, and you passed the official Cambridge Advanced examination with at least grade C.
