Specialisation Dairy Science & Technology

The dairy industry is an important branch within the food industry. The Dairy Science & Technology specialisation at Wageningen University focuses on the dairy production chain from primary production to technology and the consumer. Composition, quality, the nutritional value of milk and dairy products are important topics.

Basic knowledge

Students need to have a basic knowledge of dairy science and dairy processing before applying for this specialisation. More information on Dairy Science & Technology at Wageningen University can be found at: www.dairy.wur.nl

First year

  • Compulsory courses (CS) : compulsory for all students in this specialisation
  • Restricted Optionals (RO1-3) : students have to choose between 3 clusters with either a focus on chemistry and physics (RO1), fermentation (RO2) or processing (RO3).

Second year

The second year consists of an individual thesis project (minimum 36 ECTS) and an internship/traineeship (minimum 24 ECTS). Thesis and internship will be on a dairy science and technology related topic. A thesis is normally carried out at Wageningen University itself. The specialisation thesis topics are offered by the following groups:

Please check the individual websites for more information by clicking on the links above.

The internship always takes place outside Wageningen University. It could be carried out in another country, at a different university, within an industry or at an institute. The internship is not related to the thesis, but is under supervision of the same groups mentioned above.
