Common part Forest and Nature Conservation

The course work in this part consists of courses that you choose in consultation and agreement with your study advisor. Choices are based on your background, such as your BSc or BA and work experienced and on your future plans and ideas. What do you want to learn? Which specialisation do you like? And what are your ideas for your future career?

Introduction to the programme and research methods

The course Trends in Forest and Nature Conservation provides you with the latest developments in the field of Forest and Nature Conservation. In this course you also get familiar with the four chairgroups involved in this MSc programme. This will help you to orientate on your thesis subject.

'Trends' is compulsory for all students except for BSc graduates of Forest- and Nature Conservation (BBN at WUR). It is not allowed to choose subjects that already were part of one's BSc programme at WUR.

You choose 0 to 2 courses in consultation with your study adviser from the following courses:

  • Trends in Forest and Nature Conservation
  • Ecological Methods I
  • Research Methods for Human Environment Interactions

Academic Master Cluster

All students are obliged to do the academic master cluster. Depending on prior training, relevant work experience and your future career plans you choose the appropriate cluster, either focused on consultancy or a scientific career. The skills that you learn will enable you to participate in the labor market right from the beginning.

You choose one cluster from the courses below in consultation and agreement with the study advisor. Only students with a Dutch HBO or applied bachelor from Belgium have the option to choose Modular Skills Training Extended.

  • Academic Consultancy Training and Modular Skills Training
  • Modular Skills Training Extended (for former HBO-students)
  • Research Master Cluster
  • International Environmental Policy Consultancy (Only for SDD-track within spec. Policy & Society)

Internship

All students have to do an internship of 16 weeks. Usually this is scheduled at the end of the MSc programme. You can find more information on Thesis & Internship.

If you have already done several internships, you could consult your study advisor if the internship can be replaced with additional courses or a research practice. If you already have extended work experience you could submit a request for an exemption.
