Explanation of study costs

The university expenses consist of:

  • Tuition fees
This fee is determined by the University board and based on two full academic years (24 months). It is possible to receive a partial refund of the tuition fees after termination of enrolment.
No refund will be made if enrolment is terminated as of 1 July or 1 August unless the termination of enrolment is the result of graduation.
  • Research fees (only for non-EU/EFTA)
A one-time fee to cover research expenses during your internship and/or thesis.
The research fees is a part of the standard invoice for Non EU students, refund of this amount only is possible after full payment on that invoice or as being a part of the budget within a scholarship.
  • Living expenses
The minimum amount you will require for living expenses is approximately €890,- a month. This includes housing (approx. €400 p/m), food, books and study materials. First-year students require an extra half month of living expenses as they arrive in Wageningen before the start of the academic year. Wageningen University is obliged to proof to the Immigration Authorities that the students will have adequate financial resources. For that reason all students who require a residence permit need to transfer the living allowance to the bank account of Wageningen University. Wageningen University will administer the funds during their study and refund the living allowance on monthly basis.
  • Insurance
Another expense to consider is insurance for health and legal liability. Students with a European Health Insurance Card are only required to arrange legal liability insurance - this can be arranged by the university. Information about Insurance.
  • Residence permit (only for non-EU/EFTA)
Wageningen University has to apply for the entrance visa and residence permit for every new Non EU student who is going to start a study at Wageningen University. The total cost for the entrance visa and residence permit have to be paid by the student before the Wageningen University will start with applying for the visa and permit.
  • Handling fees (only for non-EU/EFTA)
Administration and support costs from the Student Service Centre - International Student Support team concerning the finances, the entrance visa and the residence permit.
