There are several services where researchers can create profiles and get identifiers assigned that can be used for reference. How to create different types of profiles with different services, and how do you add your publications?
Author identifiers can help in solving name ambiguity. Name ambiguity refers to the problem of attributing a publication to a proper author, as an author’s name may be written in different ways and different authors may share the same name.
Note that profiles need to be maintained – if only because you publish new papers.
- Search platforms (Web of Science ResearcherID, Scopus and Google Scholar)
- Integrate your profiles in ORCID
- Staff Publications and We@WUR
- Academic social networks (ResearchGate, Academia.edu, Scholarmate)
Some IDs and profiles can also be used with job and grant applications, and allow you to calculate performance indicators like the h-index.
