Wageningen University & Research Chemical Sciences (WUR-CS) is a cooperation between the chemical research groups of Wageningen University & Research (WUR). We focus on chemical research at the molecular level with an impact on a wide variety of more applied fields.
Chemistry for quality of life
Progressing on the ‘explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life’ mission of Wageningen University & Research-at-large, research and teaching of WUR Chemical Sciences aims not only to ‘explore’ but also to ‘extend’ via tailor-made chemical approaches. To this aim we investigate the synthesis, use and chemical behavior of conglomerates of molecules and molecular complexes.
The next generation of solar cells, novel renewable materials, tailored food ingredients, improved growth of plants, improved resource efficiency, and high-end coatings all rely on smart chemical solutions. Detailed knowledge of biological processes, catalysis, and synthesis will enable us to discover novel natural and synthetic processes and provides routes towards new products. The research of WUR Chemical Sciences is organized around two major research areas: Molecular Interactions and Synergy in Nature and Nanometer-scaled Chemistry. These themes illustrate the central position of chemistry within the natural sciences between biology, physics and materials science.

Symposium February 8th
On Wednesday, February 8th, we organize an opening symposium of our chemistry @ WURk. Several renowned international speaker (Schlenoff, Hothorn, Kuhnert) and two internal ERC Consolidator laureates (Van der Gucht, De Smet) will present their research on molecular-based sciences.
