From agricultural to food policy and beyond

Mansholt Lecture by Louise O. Fresco.

On Friday, 9 September we invite you to the first Mansholt Lecture in the Hilton Brussels Grand Place. The lecture will be delivered by prof. dr. ir. Louise O. Fresco, President of Wageningen UR. She will address the question “From agricultural to food policy and beyond”

Several European markets are characterised by oversupply and low farm prices. At the same time society and policy makers are discussing implications for the environment, the relation between food and health and ethical topics, such as animal welfare and food waste. In addition, current food value chains are under pressure and new structures are upcoming. These developments raise questions whether agricultural policy should develop into a food policy, how such policy should regulate the retail and food industry, and how increasing control of partners in the food chain over agriculture matches responsibility for healthy diets.

Registration deadline 6th September 2016.

Transform the Common Agricultural Policy

After the lecture, drs. Krijn Poppe, Research manager at LEI Wageningen UR, will present the paper 'The future of agricultural policies'. In this paper Wageningen UR presents five refreshing ideas to transform the Common Agricultural Policy at the end of this decade into a policy for healthy production and consumption.

The Mansholt Lecture by Louise O. Fresco is the input for high-level decision makers.
