I am ecologist and specialized in mathematical models. Currently my research is focussed on the theory of alternative stable states and early warning signals for critical transitions.

Among others, we studied the occurrence of multiple attractors in models of complex networks of competing species. Recently, we studied critical slowing down as early warning signal for critical transitions between alternative stable states. In a different line of work, we developed a theory that reconciles the niche and neutral theory. I also developed GRIND for MATLAB, a tool for analysing ecological models.
