Head of the Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands (CGN) of Wageningen University & Research

Sipke Joost Hiemstra is Head of the Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands (CGN) of Wageningen University & Research. He is program manager of the Dutch national programme, carrying out Statutory Research Tasks on the conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources (crops, farm animals, trees and aquatic species) for the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
At European level he is Director of the EU Reference Center for Endangered Animal Breeds (EURC-EAB). He is also the Dutch National Coordinator for Animal Genetic Resources, coordinating the implementation of the FAO Global Strategy for Animal Genetic Resources, and representing the Netherlands in the European Regional Focal Point for Animal Genetic Resources (ERFP network).
