Martien Groenen appointed Professor of Animal Breeding and GeneticsĀ

The Executive Board of Directors of Wageningen University & Research has appointed Prof. Martien Groenen from 1 April 2017 as Professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics. Martien Groenen was previously appointed personal professor because of his outstanding achievements in teaching and research. He succeeds Prof. Johan van Arendonk as chair holder.

Prof. Martien Groenen (Venray, 1958), has been involved in animal genomics since the 90's. He was part of or had a leading role in international consortia for mapping the genome of chicken, pig, duck, pigeon and great tit. These and other studies led to more than 260 publications in scientific (top) magazines, such as Nature and PNAS. Martien Groenen studied Chemistry at Radboud University, obtained his PhD in Leiden, and from 1988 worked at Wageningen University, where he supervised some thirty young PhD students.
