GoMRI funds the C-IMAGE consortium, in which several MAE students and staff work together with scientists from all over the world, led by the University of South Florida. The study revealed that oil spill dispersants can induce the formation of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) by phytoplankton-associated bacteria, which can enhance marine snow formation. This has great implications for the risk assessment of dispersant use in certain ocean conditions (high phytoplankton and high suspended solids). Click here to read the publication.
