Wageningen also tops in Agriculture & Forestry in QS Ranking

In the QS World Universities Ranking by Subject 2016, Wageningen University is world’s best for Agriculture & Forestry. In the Environmental Sciences Wageningen rose to 4th place, for Development Studies Wageningen got ranked 13th.

American and British universities dominate the top of the 42 subjects that the QS Top Universities Ranking distinguishes. But not in Agriculture & Forestry, where Wageningen University takes first place this year. Second and third are the University of California (UC Davis, USA) and Cornell University (USA). Last year Wageningen ranked 3th in this discipline. Only two other universities outside the USA and Great Britain take the lead in a discipline. In the 2016 list by subject, Wageningen University got a higher ranking in almost all disciplines.

Environmental Sciences

Wageningen University rose from 7th to 4th place in Environmental Sciences, partly due to its high H-index score, a measure for productivity and importance of publications. The top 3 consists of the American Universities Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University and the leading University of California, Berkeley.

With regard to Development Studies, Wageningen is well on the way up, by rising from position 26 to 13, also being the best Dutch university. In the Earth & Marine Sciences list, Wageningen University has entered the top 100 this year. For Veterinary Science Wageningen University is in the top 20, although it got down three places to 19.

Reputation and citations

De QS Ranking by Subject 2016 is founded on academic reputation, reputation of the universities by employers, number of citations per paper and H-index. The results draw on the opinions of 76,000 academics and 44,000 employers, alongside analysis of 28.5 million research papers and over 113 million citations.

Upward trend

In the QS World Universities Overall Ranking, the position of Wageningen University shows un upward trend. In the last edition of September 2015, Wageningen rose from place 151 to 135.
