Are you an international student at Wageningen University & Research? Would you like to speak Dutch with your fellow students and your teachers or carry on a basic conversation with your neighbours? Then our Social Dutch courses are just the thing for you!
No prior knowledge of Dutch is needed for this course. This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn Dutch for social purposes.
The course’s main objective is to learn to speak in Dutch. You will learn how to introduce yourself, exchange personal information, order in cafés and restaurants, buy and pay in shops, make appointments, as well as forms of address, formal versus informal use of the language, information on transportation and typical Dutch culture. Grammar is secondary to speaking and vocabulary building. Only basic grammar will be treated, such as the main sentence structure and the conjugation of verbs in the present and past tense. At the end of the course there will be a small test.
Social Dutch I runs for 15 classes. The course meets twice a week in the evening for 1.5 hours. Participants should expect to spend 2 to 3 hours on homework each week.
Any classes cancelled due to illness of the teacher will be made up at the end of the course.
