Social Dutch I

Are you an international student at Wageningen University & Research or would you like to be able to speak Dutch with your fellow students and your teachers, or carry on a basic conversation with your neighbours? Then our Social Dutch courses are just the thing for you.

Target group

These courses are particularly suitable for anyone who wants to learn Dutch for social purposes.

The main objective of these courses is to learn to communicate in Dutch. Subjects and situations that will be dealt with include introducing yourself, exchanging personal information, forms of address, formal versus informal use of the language, information on transportation, ordering in cafés and restaurants, buying and paying in shops, making appointments and typical Dutch culture. Grammar is subordinate to the communication skills and knowledge of vocabulary. Only basic grammatical subjects will be treated, such as the main sentence structure and the conjugation of verbs in the present and perfect tense. At the end of the course there will be a small test.

If you pass the SD I test you will obtain a certificate for level A1 of the CEFR and can be admitted to Social Dutch II.

This course runs for 15 classes. There will be evening classes of 1.5 hours, twice a week. In addition to the classes, you will be spending 2 or 3 hours on homework each week in order to attain the desired level.

* Any classes cancelled due to illness of the teacher will be made up at the end of the course.
