Leonie Janssen-Jansen is currently Professor of Land Use Planning, Environmental Science Group at the Wageningen University. Before this, she worked several years as associate professor at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Department of Geography, Planning and International Development Studies at the University of Amsterdam. She was also a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Art Design and the Built Environment, School of the Built Environment, University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, UK between 2011-2015.
     From 2010-2012, she was President of the International Academic Association on Planning, Law and Property Rights (PLPR), which promotes interdisciplinary and cross-national exchange among academics in planning, law and real estate studies. She is editor-in-chief of the Urban and Regional Planning Series of InPlanning. She has received several research grants from the Dutch Scientific Council (NWO), the Ministry of Housing, Environment and Spatial Planning, the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment agency. 
     Leonie Janssen-Jansen holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional planning from the University of Utrecht (2004) and a Masters (cum laude) in Urban and Regional planning (1998), also from the University of Utrecht. Her PhD builds on the development of regional planning strategies, and institutional innovation inspired on the methodological insights of Growth Management and Smart Growth.
     Her current teaching, research and publications focus on the relation among planning and urban development, landscapes, metropolitan challenges, real estate (office vacancy), land economics, urban transformation, smart growth, regional governance and planning, and planning and law. Understanding institutional change in relation to innovation for raising the quality of the urban environment is a major focus on her research agenda.
