Seminar: Drones for research - Observing the world in 3D from a LiDAR-UAV

A bird's eye view on our world will be provided by the newly acquired drone, the LiDAR UAV, the unmanned aerial vehicle. In the field of agriculture, ecology and land use management drones are finding a wide and growing interest. The LiDAR UAV knows a wide range of applications.
UAV drones fill the monitoring gap between observations from satellites, planes and field observations by man of unmanned vehicles with for instance sensors on a tractor. With the UAV drone observations, the new monitoring standard is set at cm scale.
The LiDAR UAV drone is available for use by anyone interested.

Imagine what you can see with a drone:

  • the remote sensing of plant responses to biotic and abiotic elements in the soil
  • the field phenotyping of crop growth parameters, fertilization and pest status
  • geomorphological changes, such as natural dune development
  • the vegetation index of dessert areas and tropical rainforests
  • the health status of coral reefs

These and other aspects of LiDAR UAV research applications will be addressed in this seminar.
Researchers of the Laboratory of Geo-information Science and Remote Sensing will outline the possibilities, results and future plans for research of the LiDAR Drone in applications such as precision agriculture and environmental monitoring.
