My research explores the socionatural transformations wrought by Inter-Basin Water Transfers (IBWTs), in both donor and recipient river basins. Actual and projected water scarcity has accelerated the development, both in number and in scale, of IBWTs. Sitting at the intersection of the feminist political ecology of water, socionatural relations, science and technology studies, subjectivities, and commons studies, I use IBWTs as an empirical case to deploy and examine hydrosocial territories across scales, temporalities, and territories, the (re)casting relationships between individuals, society, the State, and nature, and the contestations and alternatives for just water futures.
