The Power in Music:
Rap, Race, Gender and Everyday Interpersonal Politics

All social interaction involves power. Even the most intimate relationships. Whether its convincing your friends of your desired vacation destination or dressing to catch someone’s attention, all interactions between people feature a principle steering a desired affect and a subordinate on the receiving end. Join André Krouwel (VU) to see how our daily lives are influenced by power relations in one of the most influential cultural products of our time: music. Learn to ‘read’   which power relations are visible in rap video clips, and who is principle and who is subordinate. Become familiar with resources (power bases) used in pop culture and discover how expressions of power impact you.
