In situ on farm animal breeding support

This project works on the development of alternative breeding strategies to conserve genetic biodiversity and sustainable development of breeds (both in situ and ex situ).

Analysing pedigree data and/or marker data to advice which animals are of additional value for the Genebank or for using as parents in the population, because they have only few genetic links in the population. Discuss with breed organizations and herd books on breeding goals, breeding structures, cryoconservation and inbreeding.

Advice in determining the breeding goals, breeding structure and cryoconservation of several breeds and species. Advice on animals to store in the Genebank for cryoconservation. Workshops and seminars.
