ENP welcomes PhD candidate Bart Haagsma

Bart has a background in Public Administration & Organizational Sciences, having recently graduated with a specialization in Communications, Policy & Management from Utrecht University. In his studies, Bart employed a number of research techniques on various topics, including ethnographic research on the cultural value of dance in Surinam and research on the involvement of young people in the decision-making of the Dutch province of Utrecht. For his MSc-thesis, he conducted a discourse analysis of Dutch parliamentary debates regarding climate policy.

In his PhD, Bart will research socio-spatial justice in the regional energy strategies of the Dutch province of Overijssel. With his PhD, he returns to the region he grew up in. He is looking forward to working together with regional and local governments, civil society and individual citizens who work on renewable energy. Through his research, he hopes to uncover how to make the energy transition more inclusive, fair, and just.

In his free time, Bart enjoys going to concerts, vegetarian cooking and reading.
