Being a country boy I developed an interest in agriculture and technology at a young age. A professional course in that direction was obvious. Today this translates into my interest in food production with attention to sustainability and innovation. Always searching for what ís possible.
In my work in applied research, I am always looking for the connection between innovation and practical implementation. Thanks to having worked on a wide range of insect pests, I gained a lot of experience during the first 10 years with test methods and grew a love for entomology. Given my broad interest and the opportunities that arose, I gradually gained a wider (crop protection) expertise. At the moment this expertise is best captured in the following areas:
- Involving people: from working in projects such as Farming with Future (Telen met Toekomst) and PURE, remained the impression that involved stakeholders make the difference in realising sustainable crop protection. For me, a day has been successful if I have brought together parties that work towards a common goal, or I have been able to offer a tailor-made solution for a client.
- Mechanical weed control: in this specialism I can combine my interest in mechanization and sustainable crop cultivation.
- Application technology: numerous projects in the field of seed treatment have led to a broader expertise in application technology and emission of crop protection.
- Pest control: understanding and controlling insect pests is and remains an important first love. In my perception, a good understanding of the biology of the pest helps to achieve targeted and innovative control. Knowledge of local conditions - climate factors as well as cultivation possibilities and limitations - is also crucial for finding effective solutions.
