The International Society for Mushroom Science (ISMS; www.isms.biz) is a member-based not-for-profit and non-political global mushroom industry organization. Membership is open to all persons with an interest in science related to mushrooms, mushroom products, and the uses of mushrooms.||The ISMS was established in 1950 to foster the development of the mushroom industry by facilitating communication between scientists and producers to improve the outputs and outcomes of scientific research in mushrooms. This role/purpose remains core business for the ISMS today. To that aim ISMS organises congresses with a frequency of about 3-5 years at which scientists, advisors and industry can present topics in order to bring them into contact with each other. The World Society for Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products (WSMBMP; www.wsmbmp.org) is an international organization devoted to the enhancement and application of knowledge related to basic and applied aspects of mushroom biology and mushroom products. WSMBMP organises congresses with a frequency of about 4 years to allow scientists to present their work and bring them into contact with industry.
