dr. MPM (Marleen) Bekker
Assistant ProfessorMarleen Bekker is Assistant Professor in the chairgroup Health and Society. She holds a MSc degree in Health Policy and Administration from Maastricht University, and she received her PhD degree in health policy sciences at Erasmus University Rotterdam 2007. Currently she is the HSO research coordinator. Her research focuses on transformative health and healthcare system governance; a public health political science; EcoHealth and the relationship between urban planning and health; and the governance of climate health adaptation.
In the educational programme she coordinates the BSc course of Environmental Assets for Health; and is a lecturer in the Health policy and action BSc course, and the MSc course Science communication.
Additionally, she has several advisory roles among which the ZonMw Program committee in COVID-19 research; the Ministry of VWS Prevention knowledge platform. Finally, since 2016, she coordinates the Public health practice and policy (PHPP) section of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) with about 3750 members from across the world.
