Successfull Intensive Programme on European Wilderness Entrepreneurship
In co-operation with 6 European Universities in Sweden, Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands, the Cultural Geography Group has organized the very first European Wilderness Entrepreneurship (Erasmus Intensive Programme) from the 22nd of March until the 4th of April 2013.
30 students from cooperating universities critically observed land use trends and became familiar with multidisciplinary perspectives to rural development in order to come up with their own visions for the future of the Western Iberian landscape between Portugal and Spain.
Local/national stakeholders have been surprised to see such an international delegation visiting the villages of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Algodres (both in Portugal), La Encina and La Alamedilla (both in Spain). Through interactions with local stakeholders and international lecturers from various disciplines (tourism studies, sociology, biology, sustainability science, economic planning, ecology, etcetera), student groups have been challenged to come up with integrated visions for the future of Western Iberia. Several presented ideas have been received by local stakeholders as promising, and will be further developed by local organizations, architects and students themselves.
