Publication: Feeding preference as a main determinant of microscale patchiness among terrestrial nematodes
In a recent article entitled “Selecting cost effective and policy-relevant biological indicators for European monitoring of soil biodiversity and ecosystem function” by Bryan Griffiths and co-workers (Ecological Indicators 69: 213-223 (2016)) “Nematodes: molecular” ended up as number 1 in a long list of potential biological indicators of soil biodiversity and ecosystem function.
However, except for a few notorious plant parasites very little is know about the spatial distribution of nematodes in soil, and - thus - how to sample them. This paper is provides insight in the microscale distribution of dozens of nematode taxa, and links this to their trophic preferences.
