Dr. Domenico Dentoni is Associate Professor in Agribusiness Management and Organizational Change at Wageningen University & Research (Netherlands); Editor-in-Chief of the International Food and Agribusiness Management Review (ISI impact factor 2016: 0.73), an open-access, 20-years-old journal that uniquely bridges management theory to agricultural and food practice; and co-founder of the Global Center for Food Systems Innovation (GCFSI) since 2012.
Domenicos research focuses on new forms of organization and organizing that trigger (or constrain) learning and change at individual and collective levels and thus address (or worsen) wicked problems around food and agriculture. Importantly, Domenico seeks to advance "engaged scholarship" as a schoarly practice of designing and conducting research with (and not just for) societal stakeholders such as companies, startups, civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, the public sector and anything in between. To do so, Domenico's research methods are mostly inductive; and research usually starts as qualitative to become quantitative as more insights are collected.
After his PhD in Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics at Michigan State University (MSU, 2009) and holding a Lecturer position at University of Adelaide (2010), Domenico has received research grants for a total of 1,5 Million between 2011 and 2017 at Wageningen University from USAID, ACIAR (Australia), CGIAR (Global), NWO and Dutch Embassy in Kenya (Netherlands), Proakademia (Poland/EU) as well as private foundations in Ecuador and Italy. With these funds, 3 postdoc and 7 PhD positions were funded. Since 2012, his work has been published or accepted for publication in journals such as Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Business Ethics, Food Policy, Current Opinion on Environmental Sustainability, Agriculture & Human Values, Marine Policy and Journal of Cleaner Production among the others.
In terms of executive education, Domenico teaches participatory systems dynamics and value network analysis for organizational and systemic change. He is One Planet Education Network (OPEN) Fellow since 2017 and keynote speaker and executive trainer at the Nudge Global Impact Challenge since 2016. At Wageningen University, he teaches Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies at MSc and PhD levels, as well as Strategic Change Management. He was awarded with the Excellent Education Award in 2016 and shortlisted among Best Teacher of the Year finalists in 2016 and 2017.
Among the others, Domenico's research findings lead to the conclusion that universities and other academic structures (such as academic journals) need remarkable organizational change to remain to be useful actors in society in the next three decades. For this reason, he engages as active member of the Employee Council of the Department of Social Science at Wageningen University.
