Dr Tijs Breukink was appointed as a member of the Wageningen University & Research Executive Board in 2005, and in 2013 he was reappointed to this position for the second time.
Responsibilities within Wageningen University & Research
Under Tijs Breukink's leadership, the operational management within Wageningen University & Research was made even more professional. This includes the continued development of the planning and control cycle and risk management as well as the implementation of a modern HRM policy. He has also worked on innovations in information provision, in part through replacing many vulnerable bespoke solutions with standard systems.
In recent years, the operational management at Wageningen UR has been made significantly more sustainable, resulting in Wageningen UR receiving the SustainaBul Award. This means that Wageningen University is the most sustainable university in the Netherlands.
In addition, Breukink has played an important role in the development of Wageningen Campus, with its dozens of buildings, facilities and amenities. The Campus includes partners like FrieslandCampina, the Netherlands Institute of Ecology and STOAS, while Unilever recently announced to locate it's food research here.
Current additional positions
Tijs Breukink is also a member of the governing board of the Stichting SURF foundation (a collaborative organisation for ICT in Dutch higher education and research), a member of the Governance and Finances steering group of the VSNU (association of universities in the Netherlands) and a member of the Supervisory Board of the Stichting Beheer Belmonte Arboretum Wageningen foundation. He is also chair of the Advisory Board of the World Food Center, a member of the Kröller-Müller Museum Jubilee Fund, a member of the Strategic Innovation Council in Gelderland, a member of the core group of Food Valley, a member of the Advisory Board for DUWO (student housing authority) and a member of the Supervisory Committee for the Operational Programme EFRO 2014-2020 East Netherlands. Tijs Breuking is a member of of the Supervisiory board of waste disposal company ROVA in Zwolle.
Academic degrees and professional activities
Tijs Breukink obtained his Master’s in Business Economics in 1987 from Erasmus University Rotterdam and his PhD in Business Economics in 1992 from Tilburg University.
From 1987 to 1993 he worked at DAF Trucks as a Business Analyst, Corporate Planner and Production Manager.
From 1993 to 1995 he was employed as a Management Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
From 1995 to 1998 he was a Corporate Controller at Koninklijke Ten Cate.
From 1998 to 2002 he was employed at ARCADIS Nederland as a Finance Manager and from 2002 to mid-2005 he was the Financial Director there.
