  • September 6, 2017 Wageningen University & Research in 64th place in the World University Ranking According to the latest edition of the worldwide ranking of universities by Times Higher Education, Wageningen has moved up one rank this year, from 65th to 64th place. Wageningen scored well in the transfer of knowledge to the business community and in citations, and in three other categories (teaching, research, and international outlook), WUR is among the top 25% of the best universities worldwide.

  • March 1, 2017 Wageningen University & Research once again top of the table for full-time Master’s degree programmes Master’s programmes at Wageningen University & Research have once again earned the highest scores of all thirteen research universities in the Netherlands. Wageningen University & Research, which specialises in green and technical programmes, scored higher than all other universities offering full-time programmes, according to the latest edition of the Keuzegids Masters 2017 (‘Higher Education Guide to Master’s Degree Programmes 2017’), published today. The Keuzegids awarded the ‘top degree programme’ predicate to 23 of the 27 Master’s programmes taught at Wageningen University & Research.

  • January 3, 2017 Wageningen University & Research ranks third in most sustainable universities worldwide Wageningen University & Research is the third greenest university in the world, as declared on Friday by the seventh annual GreenMetric ranking from the University of Indonesia. Wageningen held the 32nd position last year, and emerged No. 3 in the 2016 GreenMetric ranking. University of California Davis (USA) ranks first, Nottingham University (UK) holds position No. 2.

  • November 15, 2016 Keuzegids 2017: Wageningen University & Research named best Dutch university for twelfth consecutive time Wageningen University & Research has once again been ranked the best university by the Dutch university information guide Keuzegids. Nearly all of Wageningen's Bachelor’s programmes received the 'Top Programme' designation, with a score of 76 or higher. Of particular note is the explicit mention of Wageningen's combination of outstanding education and excellent research.

  • September 28, 2016 Wageningen tops the tables in Elsevier Beste studies 2016 “Wageningen University is the best university in the Netherlands,” is the first sentence in Elsevier’s report of student evaluations. None of the nineteen Bachelor’s degree programmes at Wageningen UR scored below par in the Beste studies survey. The National Student Survey, conducted by Studiekeuze123, is the main pillar used for the rankings, which will be published on 29 September.

  • December 19, 2014 Most transparent about sustainability for third year in a row Out of all the Dutch knowledge and research institutes, Wageningen UR is the most transparent with regard to sustainability in its education and research programmes and its operational management. In 2014, Wageningen UR topped the Transparency Benchmark leader-board for the third year in a row. The Transparency Benchmark, a project run by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, was published on 20 November 2014.

  • May 19, 2014 Three Vidi-grants for Wageningen scientists Wageningen scientists Marleen Kamperman, Bert de Rybel and Joop Vermeer (alumnus of Wageningen University as well) will each receive a Vidi grant, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research announced on Monday. Vidi grants are awarded to researchers who have successfully carried out several years of research after they completed their PhD. The grant amounts to a maximum of 800,000 euros. It will allow them to conduct research into the topic they submitted.

  • January 29, 2014 Wageningen researcher secures Vici grant for research into nitrogen symbiosis Wageningen plant researcher René Geurts has been awarded a Vici grant by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). He will use the grant, which is worth € 1.5 million, for research into the origins of the cooperation between plants and bacteria that are able to fixate nitrogen from the atmosphere. René Geurts works at the Laboratory for Molecular Biology of Wageningen University.

  • October 6, 2013 Biologically degradable tying tube for avenue trees wins prize During Expo TCO, the tree nursery trade fair held early October in Dodewaard, the Rabo Innovation Prize was awarded to EcoXtrusion and Applied Plant Research - Trees for biologically degradable tying tube. The prize was received by project leader Bart van der Sluis. This innovation was given a high score on the criteria applicability, innovation, and social and environmental responsibility.

  • September 24, 2013 Recognition for talented young scientists In late July it was announced that no less than six young Wageningen plant scientists had been awarded a so-called Veni subsidy by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). This new record is excellent recognition of the talent on hand within the plant science groups in Wageningen. The Veni subsidies are aimed at enabling talented scientists who recently achieved their doctoral degree to carry out innovative research for a period of three years.

  • June 13, 2013 Ewout Frankema wins WASS Best Publication Award 2013 On the 11th of June, WASS Director Arthur Mol presented the Wageningen Social Sciences Publication Awards 2013. The WASS Best Publication Award was won by Ewout Frankema, for the paper “Structural Impediments to African Growth? New Evidence from Real Wages in British Africa, 1880-1965”, written together with Marlous van Waijenburg and published in The Journal of Economic History.

  • April 9, 2013 Wageningen UR wins two multi-million euro irrigation projects in Mozambique Wageningen UR has won two multi-million euro projects within the Sustainable Irrigation Development Project (PROIRRI), a 5-year programme from the Government of Mozambique, financed by the World Bank. PROIRRI is a highly innovative project, both in its broad approach to revive the country’s irrigation sector and in its approach of supporting farmer-initiated irrigation development.
