Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is helping to prevent and contain the spread of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in various ways.
This page contains more information about the research that WUR conducts into vaccines, infectious animal diseases and the consequences of the coronavirus for agriculture.
Research into vaccines
Wageningen contributes to vaccine development by producing particular proteins that are to be used in a COVID-19 vaccine. Furthermore, WUR-researchers are involved in developing an intranasal vaccin against COVID-19. At our labs we also offer possibilities to test vaccines for efficacy and safety.
Research into infectious animal diseases
There is a wide variety of corona viruses in nature that can cause disease in many animal species. The COVID-19 virus is a zoonosis, which means that the disease can be transmitted from animals to humans. WUR conducts research into this infectious animal disease that has been found in various animals, such as mink and performs diagnostics for this disease in animals.
Research into the consequences for agriculture
The COVID-19 crisis and related measures have a major impact on agriculture and the economy, not only in Europe, but also for example in developing countries. WUR provides insight into these (global) consequences and works together with partners in search of solutions.
