The societal importance of the tourism phenomenon has grown significantly in recent decades and its contribution to the global economy is well documented. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, tourism represents over 9% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and accounts for nearly 8% of global employment. But tourism is more than just a powerful economic force. It is also closely linked to major global changes is culture, politics, technology and the environment. It affects the quality of life and well-being of individuals and regions and plays an important role in community, regional and urban development.
A unique programme
The Bachelor of Science Tourism is the first scientific bachelor programme in the field of tourism in the Netherlands. As a student, you will study tourism from multiple perspectives and disciplines. Upon graduation, you will be an academic who has knowledge and understanding of developments in the domain of tourism in their various social, economic and environmental contexts and you will have the skills to carry out research into these developments.
